Sirkantahti, located at the foot of Levi Mountain. There will be plenty of time to stroll the streets of
this quaint resort village, but first you should take a traditional Finnish sauna; there is a private one
in every room. A welcome drink and dinner in the hotel will complete our first Lapland day (D)
Saturday, January 13 Today we’ll take a short ride to our favorite husky dog farm for the
10km husky safari, complete with a tour of the kennels. It is interesting to learn how “retired” dogs
teach the little puppies. You can experience the amazing thrill of mastering your own dog team or
just sit back and let the experts do all the work. Upon return to the hotel, afternoon is free for a swim
or spa treatments. You can try cross-country or downhill skiing. There are 17 ski lifts and a complete
equipment rental office just a few minutes away. Several trendy spots are open nightly for tango or
disco. You may enjoy a walk in the moonlight to see if the Northern Lights are out tonight. (B)
Sunday, January 14 A day trip to Rovaniemi at the Arctic Circle is our adventure today.
We’ll see the famous ski jump hill at Ounasvaara and ride along the Lumberjack’s Candle Bridge.
We’ll visit the Arcticum Museum, where exhibitions illustrate how people, animals and nature can
adapt to the extreme conditions of the Artic areas. We’ll watch a video show of the Northern Lights –
Aurora Borealis. Next, we’ll stop in Santa’s Village to meet the real Santa Claus. You can pose for
pictures with him and mail a letter from his own post office. The charming shops offer a variety of
beautiful glassware, jewelry and clothing items. (B)
Monday, January 15 Buffet breakfast will get us ready for a day of
adventure. Boots and snowsuits will be provided for snowmobile and reindeer safari.
We will ride through the beautiful snow-covered forest and frozen lakes. Then we’ll
meet Rudolph and Blitsen on a reindeer sleigh ride. Local Sami (Lappish) guides will
tell us stories and sing typical joiku’ songs and guide us through Lappish museum.
There will be many photo opportunities so be sure to bring your camera. (B)
Tuesday, January 16 Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and get ready to fill this
free day Tuesday with a variety of fun activities. You may go horseback riding, spend
the day in the beautiful spa being pampered or try out the new swimming pools.
